New England Racing Ready for Icebreaker Kick-Off to 2026 at Thompson Speedway

Thompson, CT — Many race fans in the northeast woke up to renewed snow on Tuesday, but it won’t put a damper on everyone’s plans to visit Thompson Speedway this Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12 for the 52nd Icebreaker Weekend! Headlined by premier Modified racing courtesy of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series, the Icebreaker will feature the start of track championship action at the Big-T plus plenty of touring action to start the season in style!

Saturday, April 11 is headlined by the Propane Plus 75 for the Monaco Modifieds with over 30 teams entered for a chance to start the season right in victory lane! Saturday’s action will also include the R&R Race Parts Open Street Stock Series with 50 laps on the board plus the Pro Truck Challenge and NEMA Lites to round out the traveling divisions. Saturday will also be the first in a doubleheader weekend for the Thompson Sunoco Modifieds plus the opening round of the Thunderstock Crown Vics for 2026 with a 1:00pm start time.

Sunday brings the return of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour for the Icebreaker 150. After events at New Smyrna Speedway and Martinsville Speedway to start the season, Tyler Rypkema in the iconic ‘Ol Blue’ No. 3 leads the standings by just two points over defending champ Austin Beers and just three points ahead of multi-time Thompson Speedway victor Patrick Emerling.

Sunday’s racing action kicks off at 2:00pm and will also feature the start of track championship racing for the Thompson Late Models, SK Light Modifieds, Street Stocks and the second of two Icebreaker features for the Sunoco Modifieds.  

The 2026 season kicks off in style with the 52nd running of the famed Icebreaker Weekend at Thompson Speedway on Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12. Saturday’s opener begins at 1:00pm and is headlined by the return of the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series plus the R&R Race Parts Open Street Stocks, Pro Truck Challenge Series, NEMA Lites, the Thompson Sunoco Modifieds and the Thunderstock Crown Vics.

Sunday’s showcase is headlined by the first of three events at Thompson for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour with the Icebreaker 150 alongside the second Thompson Sunoco Modified event of the weekend plus the Late Models, SK Light Modifieds and Street Stocks with a 2:00pm Post Time.

Single day General Admission is priced at $45 for adults, $15 for kids ages 6-12 with children five and under free on Icebreaker weekend.
