SUNOCO MODS RETURN TO THOMPSON WORLD SERIES OF RACING; THOMPSON MODS CLASH ADDED TO WORLD SERIES

PLUS SK Lights Non-Winners Race

Barre, VT & Naples, ME — As teams set their sights on the 63rd annual Thompson Sunoco World Series of racing set for October 10th-12th, officials with the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) and the American Canadian Tour (ACT) have announced the Sunoco Modifieds will return as a part of the spectacular weekend of racing. The formation of the “Thompson Clash” will pit the “old Sunoco Mods” from 2023 and earlier against the current Thompson Sunoco Mods that use the 604-bottle cap crate engine. The 50-lap contest will feature a $3,000-to-win purse and will be a part of the final day of the World Series on October 12th. Officials also announced the addition of a 20-lap SK Light Modified non-winners race to the card.

“We wanted to give everyone a chance to be a part of the 63rd annual Sunoco World Series of Racing,” said co-promoter Tom Mayberry. “The Sunoco Mods are a very popular division throughout New England, and they carry a rules package that is close to the Thompson Mods, so we wanted to include them in the action.” Sunoco Modified teams will be able to run their regular track rules at 2645 lbs. and a 6800 RPM chip rule.

The Thompson Sunoco Mods were introduced in 2024 with a rules package that nearly matched that of the Sunoco Mods, with the primary difference being the use of the 604-bottle cap crate engine. Both divisions have thrived and seen growth at various tracks throughout New England and beyond. Tracks like Thompson and Monadnock have been running the 604 Modified for a couple of years with steady growth, while places like Stafford and Waterford have stuck with the more traditional rulebook with great success. Combining the two into one race should provide an extra level of competition.

The SK Light Non-Winners Race will also be added to the program for Sunday October 13th. The SK Light division has grown into a highly competitive modified class for the budget-minded racer. Featuring the more affordable 602 crate engine and a stricter set of rules, the division has been used as a steppingstone for drivers to learn modified racing before moving up to a higher-level.

This year’s 63rd edition of the Sunoco World Series of Racing at Thompson will is a true season ending racing extravaganza. In addition to the new Thompson Clash, fans will be treated to three full days of racing on the famed 5/8-mile-high banks with 16 different divisions set to take the track. Among the highlights are the 75th annual Race of Champions 150 slated for Saturday October 11th and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour 150 scheduled for Sunday October 12th . A Full Schedule of events and ticket information will be published soon.
